JACKSON “JACKO” CLARKE: THE MODERN AUSTRALIAN MAN'S GUIDE TO FIT LIVING
From Bondi Boxer to Style & Strength Architect: An Aussie Story
G'day, I'm Jackson Clarke though most blokes call me Jacko. My story isn't one of academic laboratories or overseas certifications earned in a classroom. It’s a dinkum Australian journey, forged on the sand of Bondi Beach at 5 AM, in the gritty corners of a Brunswick boxing gym, and in the carparks of the Dandenongs where we lift stones and logs. For over 15 years, I’ve lived at the intersection of functional Australian fitness and authentic men’s style, building a philosophy that rejects the preening, impractical extremes of “influencer culture” in favour of what actually works for a bloke’s life under the Southern Sun.

I started as a tradie a sparky in Perth, to be precise who trained hard to stay strong for the job and played harder on the weekend. I discovered that how you dressed and carried yourself off the worksite directly impacted your confidence on it. My “education” came from apprenticing under old-school strength coaches, training alongside elite athletes, and later, through formalising that knowledge with ASCA (Australian Strength and Conditioning Association) Level 1 accreditation and a Certificate IV in Fitness. More importantly, I spent years in men’s tailoring workshops in Melbourne and Florence, learning about fabric, drape, and construction, so I could translate that same principle of form following function from the gym floor to the boardroom or the bar.
This unique dual expertise led me to consult for Australian Football League (AFL) strength and conditioning teams on athlete presentation and the psychology of appearance, and to advise emerging Australian menswear brands on creating clothes that work for an active, muscular frame. My mission is simple: to help Australian men build physical strength that translates to real life, and a personal style that communicates confidence without saying a word.
THE BLAKEOUT PHILOSOPHY: STRENGTH, STYLE, SUBSTANCE
My entire approach is built on what I call the BLAKEOUT CODE a mindset named after those relentless, burn-off-the-haze summer sunrises where you get the work done before the world wakes up.
1. FUNCTIONAL, NO-BS AUSTRALIAN FITNESS:
My training philosophy is built for the Australian environment and mentality.
- Strength You Can Use: We train movements, not just muscles. It’s about building a body that can help you move a fridge, wrestle with your kids at the park, paddle out through a rip, or play a competitive game of touch footy without pulling up sore for a week. You’ll see a heavy emphasis on compound lifts, loaded carries, grip strength, and single-leg stability the foundational pillars of real-world resilience.
- Conditioning for the Climate: Our cardio isn’t endless treadmill slogs. It’s rucking in the Blue Mountains, sandhill sprints, boxing padwork, and functional HIIT circuits you can do in a garage or backyard with minimal equipment. It’s about building an engine that thrives in the heat and recovers quickly.
- The 90% Rule: You don’t need to live in the gym. I advocate for consistent, focused effort that delivers 90% of the results. We prioritise sleep, manage the bloody good Aussie pub culture intelligently, and train around work and life not the other way around. It’s sustainable, hard yakka, but it’s smart.
- Mindset of a Battler: Fitness is as much about mental fortitude as physical. I draw on the Australian archetypes of the resilient battler, the quiet achiever, and the loyal mate . Your training builds more than muscle; it builds character, discipline, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing you can handle hard things.
2. ANTIPODEAN STYLE: DRESSING FOR THE MODERN AUSTRALIAN LIFE:
Australian men’s style has a unique challenge: balancing a relaxed, active outdoor lifestyle with the demands of modern professionalism and social life. My style doctrine is built on this reality.
- The Foundation of Fit: The single most important style principle for a fit man is proportion and fit . I’ll teach you how clothes should actually hang on a developed V-taper, broad shoulders, and muscular thighs. How to navigate “athletic fit” vs. “slim fit,” where to get your shirts darted and chinos tapered, and which Australian tailors and brands (from R.M. Williams to MJ Bale’s athletic cuts and newer players like Southern Craft) understand a muscular build.
- The Capsule Wardrobe for the 4-Season Aussie Climate: We master layering for Melbourne’s “four seasons in a day,” breathable fabrics for Queensland humidity, and transitional pieces for the milder seasons. It’s about quality over quantity: building a core wardrobe of performance suiting, premium polos, well-cut shorts, durable boots, and versatile outerwear that works from the Hunter Valley to Hobart.
- From Site to Supper: The art of context-appropriate style . How to transition from a jobsite or the gym to a client meeting or a date. The essential pieces to keep in your ute or car. The one blazer that works with dark jeans and boots. It’s pragmatic, not precious.
- Grooming for the Active Bloke: Simple, effective routines. Managing sweat, sun protection (the most crucial Australian style and health tip of all), beard maintenance for the heat, and haircuts that look good growing out. It’s about looking sharp, not spending hours in front of the mirror.
MY LIFE: WHERE THE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD
I live this code every single day, splitting my time between **Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and a bush block in Northern Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and a bush block in Northern NSW.
- My Training: My weeks blend heavy strength sessions (powerlifting basics) with outdoor conditioning (ocean swims, hill sprints), and mobility/recovery work (yoga, focusing on undoing the tightness from desk or tradie work). I still train with amateur boxers for footwork and grit.
- My Style Uniform: Off-duty, it’s **quality well-fitted tees or polos, Faherty shorts or Ascolour trackpants, and Bl quality well-fitted tees or polos, Faherty shorts or Ascolour trackpants, and Blundstone boots or Veja sneakers. For business, it’s athletic-cut suits from P. Johnson or InStitchu, non-iron performance shirts, and crisp RM Williams Craftsmans.
- My Passions: Beyond the gym and the wardrobe, my sanity comes from weekend fishing trips, restoring an old LandCruiser (a never-ending project), and the sacred ritual of the Saturday morning bacon and egg roll with my mates after training. I believe fitness and style should enable your life, not become it.
MY PROMISE TO YOU, MATE
The online space for men is full of confusing, contradictory, and often downright soft advice from people who don’t understand the Australian context. Here’s my guarantee:
- Dinkum, No-Wank Advice: I cut through the hype. You’ll get clear, actionable guidance on fitness and style, free from unnecessary jargon. If a supplement is overpriced snake oil, I’ll tell you. If a fashion trend is useless for our climate, I’ll say so.
- Made for Aussie Conditions: Every workout, nutrition tip (including how to navigate a meat pie or a parma), and style recommendation considers our unique environment, lifestyle, and attitude.
- Built on Integrity: I only promote **products I’ve personally tested and products I’ve personally tested and brands I believe in. If there’s a partnership, I’ll shout it from the rooftops. My loyalty is to you, the reader, not a sponsor.
- Community Focused: This is about lifting each other up. The comments section and my social channels are for blokes to share wins, ask real questions, and find support without judgement.
BEYOND THE SCREEN
When I’m not writing, I run small-group “BLAKEOUT” training camps on the NSW South Coast, combining functional fitness with practical lifestyle workshops. I also offer limited one-on-one consulting for professionals and athletes on personal branding through physical and sartorial presence.
